  • This is the most critical learning period of a dog's life because they learn the fastest and adapt best to new experiences.

Family Manners »

Do you want to gain control of your dog at home and out in public ? Here’s a chance to work on basic manners and have fun doing so.

This class is for any dog and handler that need to work on the basics for having a well mannered dog in any setting. The usual skills of sit , down, stay, come when called, and loose leash walking will be introduced.

We will also work on issues such as door dashing, toe nail trimming, and jumping on grandma. You’ll learn to properly use a clicker and some other training techniques such as Doggie Zen and how to give your dog a job.

Come out for some fun and get a handle on your dogs behavior.

Hollywood Dog 101 — For the dog waiting to be discovered »

Is your dog just waiting to be discovered? Is he cuter, smarter, and more talented then all those dogs you see in the movies or in ads?

In the Hollywood Dog™ 101 class, you will learn what you need to know to break into show biz.

I will answer your questions and more as I guide you through acting in-and-outs -

  • What types of animals work and why
  • What skills are needed for live action, video, and still photo shoots
  • What to know for success on set - human AND animal
  • How to package your animal for agents and casting directors
  • What to include in your animal's training program to increase his marketability
  • Creative problem solving on set
  • How to build enthusiasm and "happiness" to work

You will learn some of the most common skills/tricks that producers ask for and how to quickly train a trick that you don’t know, if it’s requested on set. You will learn how to send your dog to a mark to perform and practice working for others, and how to build new tricks from known commands. You will also get some talent agent contacts and have a photo session on graduation day for your portfolio.

Hollywood Dog 201 »

This is the class for those who want to refine and teach your dogs a whole new set of skills to increase their marketability. 

In Hollywood Dog™ 101, you learned what YOU need to know to succeed on set and what you need to teach your dog to maximize their opportunity to get jobs.

Hollywood Dog™ 201 will give you the opportunity to master the specific skills and tricks that directors ask for and help you refine your shaping skills so that you can pull together magic out of thin air when required on set. 

In  HD 201, we will work in the class environment, but we will also take it on the road and work on location so that you can practice in an "on-set" environment.

Intermediate Puppy Class — AKC S.T.A.R »

  • Here's your chance to work with your puppy to earn the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy distinction! All dogs need the necessary components of the program including Socialization, Training, Activity, and a Responsible owner.
  • We will continue training and prevention of the most common puppy behaviors, such as housebreaking, crate training, play bite and dominance, socialization with people and other dogs, and proper nutrition.
  • Gives puppies a firm foundation in behavior and socialization by continuing to work on healthy socialization with other dogs and people, and will expand their horizons by adding different sizes and ages of dogs and more environmental changes.
  • There will be a test during the final class - all those that pass will earn AKC's S.T.A.R. Puppy Award!

Shy Dog Class »

  • Class is designed for dogs that are a bit overwhelmed by the world around them.
  • Designed to help the dog that is afraid to approach everyday items in their environment or are intimidated by people or other dogs.
  • Shy Dog Class will show you how to safely manage and support your fearful dog and give you insight into your dog’s fears.
  • We will use reward based training and desensitization to help you build your dog's confidence and create a positive environment to ease his fears.
Prerequisites: This class will is not appropriate for reactive or aggressive dogs – instructor evaluation or referral is required.

Agility Foundations »

  • This class teaches dogs and handlers foundation behaviors needed to succeed in the sport of agility.
  • This class is for dogs and handlers that have had Basic Obedience or Shaping 101 (or instructor approval). Dog/Handler teams learn basic skills such as crate games, loose leash walking, sit, stay, down, come, nose touch, interacting with objects, circle work (shadow handling), and tug.
  • Dogs will also be introduced to beginner agility obstacles such as the tunnel, wobble board, and jumps.

Want to get on board with one of the most exciting dog sports?

Agility Fundamentals will get you started - bring your four-legged athlete out and see if this is a sport you and your dog might excel in.

This class is for any dog 6 months and older that has a handler that wishes to pursue the sport.

Teams are taught how to combine basic manner skills such as sit, down, stay, come when called, and loose leash walking with tools for building agility fundamentals — you will also be introduced to such things as the wobble board, jumps, targets, table and clicker.

Reactive Dog Class »

Here’s a chance to work on your reactive dog's obedience and issues. This class will be set up to help your dog succeed while you work on your training goals. Each handler will set specific goals for their work sessions and each dog will have a training path based on these goals and individual progress made.

This is a 4 week class and dogs come to all classes. Once the handler and dog have attended the initial 4 week class session, they will continue on a monthly basis ($120 per 4 week session).

Are you interested in dog sports, but just can’t decide?

Would you like to know more about activities you and your dog can get involved in?

In her Pre-Sports class, Traci incorporates foundation skills for major dog sports – Agility, Flyball, Frisbee, and Freestyle. Students begin by practicing control commands and progress to sports-specific commands. The goals of the class are to increase and maintain your dog’s focus in high-distraction environments, sample active dog sports, and to have fun. Students will be taught the meaning of motivation and drive to enhance their dog’s natural strengths of jumping, running, retrieving, and play and get to sample some of the equipment used.

Want to spend some quality time with your dog where both of you will have a chance to boogie down? Freestyle Dancing is a fun class for both the handler and the dog.

Big, little, young, and old - all handlers and dogs can learn - no dancing skills required!

In this class, each team will work at their own level. You will play off of natural movements and talents, such as spins, Figure 8's, jumping, backing up, and rolling over. Music and heel work become the glue to help you create a fun performance.

Costuming, picking music, playing to your audience, and maintaining your dog's focus will be some of the skills you will learn.

Therapy Dog Primer »

Do you and your dog have the potential to make a good therapy dog team? If your dog loves people, then you might have a dog with the gift to be a therapy dog.

This class introduces the fundamental skills required to pass therapy dog testing. We will focus on socialization, paying attention to the handler, touching by strangers, "no jumping", walking on a loose leash, working in distracting environments, relaxing while being petted, and confidence around people with unstable movements.

In the final week, handlers and dogs will be assessed for potential to pass a therapy dog test and join a therapy dog organization.
Prerequisites: Your dog must have graduated from the Basic Obedience class or be evaluated by the Instructor to attend this class.

Scent Works 101PET »

Scent Works classes have been designed to show pet owners how to tap into the power of their dog's nose in a fun way that promotes teamwork and confidence building.
  • This class focuses on teaching your dog to locate a specific odor on command.
  • This class includes scent imprinting on a single target odor (essential oil), command association, pinpointing, and teaching the alert behavior.
  • Each week we will practice exercises and scenarios to build your dog’s foundation in utilizing his sense of smell to find a target odor.
  • Dogs of all sizes, breeds, and skill levels are welcome.
  • This class is great for building confidence in shy dogs or teaching focus in dogs that are easily distracted.

Beginning Flyball »

Flyball is a dog sport in which two teams of four dogs race against each other and the clock. The race is composed of heats in which each of these four dogs are required to jump four hurdles, trigger a box that deploys a ball, catch the ball and then retrieve the ball over the hurdles to the start line successfully and in order.

Dogs that excel at this sport are energetic, focused, and have the desire to retrieve, but any dog can play. Any size breed and mixed breeds are welcome.

In this class, you will learn the principles of motivation without force and technical aspects of the sport, including sequence jumping, ball retrieval, and proper box turns. Dogs should have a working knowledge of the basic obedience commands to participate.

The building blocks for Hollywood Dog™, Agility Foundations, and other fun activities!

  • Click-N-Trick introduces you and your dog to the art of shaping behaviors using a clicker.
  • Shaping teaches your dog to think and will encourage them to offer behaviors, which are the building blocks of Tricks and skills that you want them to learn.
  • We will work through different exercises in this 2 hour session and then you will go home and continue teaching your dog the “fun” in learning.

AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) Prep Workshop »

During this 2 hour workshop, you will practice the 10 steps covered in the CGC exam, and will have a chance to work on any areas where you are having difficulty.

Started in 1989, the CGC Program is designed to reward dogs who have good manners at home and in the community. The Canine Good Citizen Program is a two-part program that stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test will receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club.

The 10 exercises covered in the exam are —

  1. Greeting a friendly stranger
  2. Sitting politely for petting
  3. Grooming (allowing Evaluator to run a brush down the dog's back and touch his or her paws and ears)
  4. Loose leash walking
  5. Walking through a crowd
  6. Stay
  7. Coming when called
  8. Reaction to other dogs
  9. Reaction to distractions
  10. Supervised separation

Lights, Camera, Action!

So You Think Fido Has What It Takes To Be A Star?

Is your dog just waiting to be discovered? Are you convinced he’s cuter, smarter, and more talented then all those dogs you see in the movies or in ads?

Then meet Traci Murdock, a Certified Pet Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA), photographer, Talent Scout and Wrangler, and much more. Traci uses all these talents to teach dog owners the skills their dogs need to break into show business.

Traci used her own experiences in getting her dogs exposed to the business of canine acting to create Hollywood Dog™ classes, which teach the most common skills and tricks that producers ask for and how to quickly train your dog for a new trick if it's required on set. Class attendees also learn how to send their dogs to a mark to perform, practice working for others, and learn how to build new tricks from known commands.

Traci also provides talent agent contacts and conducts a photo session at the end of the day so that graduates will have head shots to send out.

 

Day Training Camp (Reservation Required)

Cost $50/day + cost of lodging/daycare
If you are struggling with minor basic obedience issues or doggie manners, our trainer will come on site to work with your dog while you are away.

  • Training will focus on 1-2 basic manners, in conjunction with daycare or lodging.
  • Trainer will work to enforce basic commands, socialization with other dogs/people, and minor behavioral problems.
  • The trainer will meet with the owner to demonstrate commands learned; confirmed time of pick-up required.

 

Private Lessons

Evaluation / consultation at any Pappy's Pet Lodge location

1 hour private in-home lesson (basic skills, manners/control, puppy issues)

Cost $100
Perfect for house-soiling, mild food/toy possessiveness, destructiveness, barking, jumping, pulling, or mild territorial issues with strangers/guests. If your life is too hectic, an in-home private lesson may be the answer to teaching your dog how to act properly at home and with people/children, walk properly on leash, and other basic obedience skills.

1 hour private in-home lesson (behavioral issues/training)

Cost $150
If you feel your dog's issues have moved past basic behavior problems, this is an opportunity to sit down with our trainer to properly evaluate and identify the most cost-effective way to help your pet become a better family member. In this session, you will identify how many sessions it may take to improve your dog's behavior and write a targeted training plan for you and your pet. Perfect for pet owners that have specific behavioral issues like: separation anxiety, dogs that can't go for a walk because they are people/pet reactive, dogs that need to learn proper socialization to attend doggie daycare, dogs that cause problems when you have guest(s) in your home, issues with multiple pets in the household, or any other behavioral issues.
